Goal setting and self study workshop
Tuesday 5th Jan @ 7:00-9:00pm
The new year is fast approaching and I think the general mood for 2021 is that it's an improvement on 2020.
However! Have you taken the time to look back on your 2020? Actually taken note of how it's gone, not in the tiny day to day things, not in a global sense, but in how you've actually grown as a person? Have you looked at what you've achieved this year? And compared the end of 2020 you to the end of 2019 you?
This workshop may be the perfect opportunity to do this.
I will be teaching you the art of self study. The kind of self study that doesn't leave you feeling depressed or anxious or any where in between. I'll be teaching you how to look back at your past self and how to learn from each situation. I will give you the knowledge to overcome the feelings of worry, or self deprecation that often arise when we look back at what we've done, so you can learn but not fall into a spiral of unwanted emotion.
We then look forward.
We learn from our 2020 selves and create our 2021 goals in line with what we know we can do, overcome and how much we can grow.
Only by self study can we truly know ourselves and from knowing ourselves we're able to be our authentic selves and reduce the negative impact of trying to be something we're not. By means of self study we are able to set goals that work for us, not goals set by the ego and the assumption that this is what we 'should be doing'. We are much more likely to achieve our goals when we are aligned with what we truly want, who we really are and if we align them with behaviours that work for us.
An example of the power of self study in goal setting:
Suggested goal: "I'm going to start going to the gym at 6am, because that way I'll workout every day and hit my weight loss goals"
Reality: This person is a night owl. They naturally wake up at 8-9am, they don't really kickstart their day until 11am, their normal bedtime is 11pm.
Outcome: This person is unlikely to stick to this goal due to the fact they're going against their bodies natural rhythms. They may make the odd early morning class, but it's very likely it wouldn't be going often and then not make it at all, feel disheartened, useless and like a failure. It is unlikely they'll feel motivated to continue with their weight loss journey for a while.
Self study: If this new year fitness enthusiast had taken the time to reflect on their own behaviours, on their daily patterns and habits, they'd have realised that they are a night owl and they'd know that aiming to go to the gym at 6am in the morning is setting themselves up for failure. Had they studied themselves they'd know they need to get to the gym later in the evening. At this time they'd be more likely to make it, with higher levels of energy and stick to it as they're motivated by their own success in making the gym at all.
The workshop will be hosted on Zoom (online video meeting), you can have your camera and mic on or off, you can ask questions and share your experiences or you can sit back, relax and learn. The workshops usually work really well in smaller groups as we have more time for questions and chat, therefore I will be limiting the spaces. Please get booked in early to avoid disappointment.
We will cover:
Over the 2 hours you will be able to ask any questions in regards to what we're covering. You're welcome to share experiences and you're encouraged to make your own notes and get your goals down on paper. We will continue to keep in touch after the meeting is over if you need the accountability and you can always rewatch the workshop to motivate yourself again in the future.
What you will need for this workshop:
Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions about the workshop. Otherwise book on and you will be sent more details before the workshop begins. We then kick off live at 7pm on Tuesday 5th January and we aim to finish at 9pm.
I look forward to learning with you.
